BUGGSY'S TORANA PAGE
In 1972 Holden produced another
Bathurst winner. The LJ Torana was the same in appearance as the
LC Torana, but had a better peformance 3.3 litre engine which developed
142kW at 5600rpm. Not bad for a small car huh? The LJ came in different
varieties with a choice of a 4 or 6 cylinder engine. The GTR-XU1,
was the first car that Peter Brock won a Bathurst endurance race in, only
months after its release.
The LH Torana appeared in 1974 and changed the identity
of the Torana forever. The bigger and squarer box-shaped car was
one of the few cars to have the option of either a 4, 6 or 8 cylinder engine.
The three ranges of Toranas included the performance SLR. In 1975 Peter
Brock and Brian Sampson took a LH Torana L34 to another Bathurst win. There
were 71,408 LH Toranas produced.
